Counselors host “Dating 101” workshop for senior girls
On Wednesday, June 10, guidance counselors Sean Burke and Alexa Scott held an eighth-period session entitled “Dating 101.”. This A-block activity was only open to senior girls. “Dating 101” served as a senior transition workshop (STW). It has been a tradition for Jefferson teachers, counselors and administrators to hold various STWs at the end of the school year for graduating students, but “Dating 101” was the only one offered this year.

FCPS and Fairfax County Fiscal Year 2016 Budget Analysis
The campaign #saveFCPS aims in gain attention of Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in order to pressure them to fully fund FCPS. With the recent #saveFCPS campaign launched by Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Superintendent Karen Garza, we were surprised to see that FCPS would face a $7 million deficit in fiscal year (FY) 2016.

Girls’ crew lower boats excel at state finals
Jefferson girls’ crew competed their third and fourth-tier boats and their freshman boat. The freshman boat, consisting of coxswain freshman Melanie Kurapatti and rowers freshmen Artemis Veizi, Erin NewRingiesen, Julia Damron, Maggie Kirtley, Emma Choi, Christine Zhao, Yael Cohen and Melly Song, placed third in the semifinals race, which moved them onto the final race.

“Fiddler on the Roof” reflects hard work of cast and crew
Jefferson Drama put on their spring musical, “Fiddler on the Roof,” on April 30-May 2. The play starred seniors Gavin Moore, Kiera Becker, Misha Ryjik, Heather Lukas and Adrien Bernard, juniors Sophia Martinese, Debi Das and Abby Peterson and sophomore Arjun Guidroz. Each one falls in love with someone more difficult to accept than the last, with Tzeitl loving the poor tailor Motel (Guidroz), Hodel the unemployed radical Perchik (Ryjik) and Chava the Russian Gentile Fyedka (Bernard).

A senior at Jefferson, Alexis is in her third year of working on the newspaper staff. As Design Editor, she oversees design of the paper, works on design-intensive pages and trains new staffers in graphic design. In the past, Alexis has served as Features Editor and Spread Editor.

Alexis joined tjTODAY because she was looking for a way to be involved in the TJ community and loved reading the newspaper every month.

Outside of journalism, Alexis is captain of the Varsity Dance Team, a member of KLR Studios of Dance and Music K’llr Comp Crew, a Girl Scout and secretary of TJ Guitar Club. After high school, Alexis would like to pursue a career in medicine.
